Welcome to startpause.com!
To begin, let us first address some important matters of the mind (and no doubt also, of course, the heart).
What is startpause?
Well, startpause is a place designed to reflect our thoughts and opinions, share our talents and projects with everyone else, and basically amuse ourselves and others in the process. We hope this can be a place where people will be able to find unique opinions and ideas on several topics, and a wide array of other things soon to come. This will be a place where an exciting community can develop, composed of our friends and others alike.
Basically, this is our website. We’re not trying to be like anything else that’s already out there, nor are we trying to provide any unique kind of service. No, none of that. We are simply writing what is on our mind and maybe others might find some interest. It’s motivation for us to organize and develop ourselves, and be more professional about life in general. I do like to think of it as more than just some blog, but it may be a while before it breaks past those limitations of thought.
Who is startpause?
Who? It’s us of course! It is I, it is we, it is you, it is whoever wishes to answer that question. More specifically it is created by us Anuj and Mike, but we are writing this here for you just as much ourselves. Our opinions and ideas are presented as a gateway for anyone and everyone and no one as it be deemed appropriate. It is as such that it should also be judged, that is, with very little judgement but with more concrete criticisms of everything with a move developed future in mind; it is quite amusing that a website that thrives on judgement wishes not to be judged, but I suppose therein lies the ironies of the critic when, as they say, everyone’s a critic.
If you wish to know more about us specifically, Anuj and Mike, we are simply your not-so-average college-ish kids with the above average geekiness and below average attention span; we care about lots of stuff and we rant and ramble and we digress and bottle up our emotions and daydream and stay awake all night and read books and surf the internet and watch funny videos and vegetables and we definitely like your mother. I think you’d like us if you met us in real life. If you want to know even more, see our profile panes at the bottom of this page.
Why startpause?
I assume, that by this question, you refer to the origins behind the name and title given to this website, and more specifically the reason behind the combinations of the words ’start’ and ‘pause’ and what seemingly significant meaning it does have to us. Otherwise, I would hope any other questions involving the ‘why’ behind the website would have already been answered.
Well, there are really several reasons behind this. In short, we wanted something simple, something easy to remember, and something with somewhat little significance with the possibility of sounding like it had more significance. Startpause as “one word” sounded good and rolled off of the tongue really well. We also wanted it to sound like it was related strongly to video games, movies, television, and other bastions of geekdom, but we didn’t want to be limited to only those mediums; we also didn’t want to be so creative with the title that it became actually unoriginal in the wide world of the internet (as often titles become). Startpause seemed to fit appropriately in all of these.
Then of course there was the deeper reasoning to why we actually started to like the name. The idea of start/pause is all to familiar to most gamers, and it is indeed amusing thinking about the contradictory nature of the Start button representing the pause function in a game. Start/stop sounded too bland, and play/pause sounded too focused. The idea of the starting being the beginning of everything and everything afterwards as a series of pauses (never truly stopping) as a time of reflection and thought seemed very appropriate to the idea we envisioned for the website, and so startpause was born.
What’s up with all that text that looks like a link but isn’t?
Well, hover your mouse over it! Like this! See, if you hold it there for a few seconds, a bit of text should appear, perhaps it’s a funny quip, a clue, a clever prod at some innocent bystander that didn’t deserve it at all, but we made the prod anyways, but it’s ok because we didn’t really prod them because we were too scared to actually say it and instead hid it cleverly like this, the secret to said cleverness that we are revealing now! Ok ok, so seriously though, think of it as a more interesting way to give the punchline to a joke, without actually having to say the punchline to the joke…you know, thereby not ruining it. I think it’s a fun little game, and it sure makes things more interesting.
How should I spend my time on this totally awesome website?
If there is anything to read, read it! An interesting topic, read it! A boring topic, don’t read it! Agree? Disagree? Nothing new to read? Talk about it on the forums, write your own stuff, come up with your own topics, and then others will read it (or not read it) as we all see fit. We would love if people found entertainment in our opinions because we find much interest in learning from the opinions of others.
Be sure to register and voice your opinions on our Forums.
